Cradle to Cradle® a product advantage of the benefit of mankind!
The demand for paper towels, soap and alcohol disinfectant cleaners has grown enormously in recent years. This development provides an additional incentive for the Cradle to Cradle® products by Van Houtum. The products were put on the market in July 2009 and have received Cradle to Cradle Silver certification®.
Research has already shown that paper towel is the most hygienic way to dry hands after washing. To date, the Cradle to Cradle Satino® Black products stand out as unmatched in quality standards. Cradle to Cradle® products are distinguished by their efficiency, little or no pollution and high user-friendliness. They imply a paradigm shift in industrial production and their products. Not only the form, functionality and components are being redefined by the innovative design but Cradle to Cradle Design® products also reach a new level of quality and safety in endless cycles.
Van Houtum uses only recycled paper for the Satino® Black products. The aim is to replace the decomposition of toxic chemicals with positively defined chemicals according to Cradle to Cradle® design. Cradle to Cradle® enables thinking in terms of cycles. This allows Van Houtum to recognize and define separately managed circuits that have not been selected for the environment but for data protection for banks, insurance companies and government agencies.
Provinces in the Netherlands as regions and Rabo Bank, Van Houtum as the producer and Van Gansewinkel as the disposer have defined a project to carry these materials in a secure defined cycle. The goal is to push Cradle to Cradle® quality, even in the paper industry, to a new standard of quality.
Van Houtum is already a pioneer in the paper manufacturing industry. Their CO2 emissions, water and energy consumption are among the lowest in the industry worldwide. The firm’s own heat and power system enables significant energy savings. Van Houtum continuously monitors the energy efficiency in production, even the water usage is far below the industry average. All the necessary chemicals for Cradle to Cradle® principles have been replaced with biodegradable additives. All residues that can be incorporated into the products from recycled materials (short fiber, calcium, etc.) are now being used by Roermond paper as a raw material. Previously these raw materials had been declared as waste. Today, they are recognized as a raw material!
Cradle to Cradle® has shown Van Houtum that path, which has been shown to be economically viable. Roermond paper now produces cardboard packaging for Satino® Black from these recovered materials thus completing the circle.
