Case Study

No final curtain call for Pfister products

Thörishaus BE/Bäch SZ – Pfister Vorhang Service AG takes back used curtain materials from its customers that meet the requirements of the Cradle to Cradle Certified certification. In this way, the company is able to guarantee optimal reutilization of the materials, owing to the fact that its products are suitable for the circular economy and accordingly certified as such.

Pfister manufactures curtains that are permanently flame retardant. The products of the Pfister FR (flame retardant) line also offer another stand-out quality: They are suitable for the circular economy. This is reflected by a Cradle to Cradle Certified Gold certification. The Cradle to Cradle approach embodies a principle anchored in the circular economy, guaranteeing that all materials used in a product will not cause any harm to either the biological or technical lifecycles.

Pfister Vorhang Service AG manufactures its Pfister FR products using a monomaterial. However, this alone is not sufficient for a product to be successfully certified. Together with EPEA Switzerland, the accredited expert for Cradle to Cradle Certified and Material Health Certificate certifications based in Bäch in the canton of Schwyz, all production areas have been thoroughly inspected in terms of compliance with circular economy principles.

For this, five aspects are key. For example, in terms of material health, checks are carried out to confirm that no unknown chemicals are present in the material, while introduction into the biological and technical lifecycles is covered by the material reutilization aspect. The eco-friendly credentials of the product are also verified, as the production energy used in manufacturing processes must be obtained from renewable sources. Moreover, a company must undertake to retain water as a resource and guarantee social fairness.
